Despiau

Marius Despiau discovered his affinity for wood at a very early age. He founded a sawmill in 1920, which he directed with great success until he passed the business on to his son Jean-Louis in 1968.
Jean-Louis, a passionate violinist and violist, was born with the same fascination for wood. He has worked tirelessly to fulfil his vision of making the perfect bridge. In 1984, Jean-Louis and his son Pierre-Jean first introduced Despiau bridges to the market.
Siblings Jane and Nicolas have been working for the family-run business since 1999. The consistent high quality of Despiau bridges is attributable to the well-seasoned wood, fine craftsmanship and special hardening procedures used in their making. Thorough knowledge of the ways in which a bridge exerts force onto the instrument top and its own resonant properties is essential to making an excellent bridge. At Despiau, every phase of production is carefully monitored to guarantee the very best results.
Since mid-2005, Despiau has been using a new technique which completely prevents the edges of their bridges from being burnt during production. The Despiau company's love of woodworking and amazing technical know-how is reflected in every bridge they produce. Their name stands for high precision and lasting quality.
