Teller

The Josef Teller Company has been family run for over 100 years and is now in its fourth generation. In 1891, Isidor Teller started the business specializing in crafting instrument bridges. As Teller's reputation for high quality became known, the demand for his fittings for bowed and plucked stringed instruments grew.
The Teller family's history of involvement in the music business goes back even further. The chronicles of the city of Schönbach lists several members of the Teller family as violin and guitar makers as early as 1826.
The Teller business relocated to the Bavarian city of Bubenreuth near Erlangen in the 1950's. It has grown rapidly ever since, erecting new administrative and wood storage facilities, employing additional workers and broadening its product range. The Josef Teller Company has not lost sight of the principles which made Isidor Teller's fledgling business so successful. They still make sure every individual bridge they make is crafted to meet the highest possible standards.
The freshly split wood is naturally dried in an open air storage facility. After drying for several years, the Bosnian maple is sorted by quality and seasoned for another 5-20 years. The extended drying time ensures that the moisture is removed without diminishing the quality of the wood. Long drying times minimize the cracking and deformation of the wood and reduce the risk of infestation. The Teller company does not additionally treat the maple wood to further harden it. The natural stability and hardness of the maple are left intact and play a significant role in improving the tone of the instrument.
